BD Launches Vascular Access Ultrasound System to Enhance Clinician Efficiency

BD has launched the SiteRite, an all-new Vascular Access Ultrasound System with advanced features such as real-time needle tracking and automatic vessel detection. This advanced tool is designed to enhance clinicians' efficiency in inserting vascular access devices. It promises to improve first-attempt insertion success and reduce the number of unsuccessful insertion attempts.

BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), one of the leading global medical technology companies, has announced its latest ultrasound system, the SiteRite™ 9 Ultrasound System. This new solution boasts an updated 15.6-inch touchscreen with enhanced image quality. It is set to revolutionize the way clinicians insert vascular access devices such as peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs), central venous catheters, and IV lines.

"Our latest innovation in ultrasound technology is designed to make vascular access care delivery easier and more efficient for clinicians — whether they've been on the job for years or are new to the field," said Eric Borin, worldwide president of Medication Delivery Solutions at BD. “By combining our decades of leadership in vascular access with voice-of-the-customer enhancements, we've developed a best-in-class solution to aid in insertion success on the first attempt and reduce the need for repeated needlesticks to deliver a better care experience for everyone involved.”

The system also integrates smart technologies for vessel assessment. These tools automatically detect the vessel and pair with measurement tools to aid clinicians in selecting the appropriate catheter, ensuring informed and accurate decisions during procedures. Additionally, the system supports clinician workflow with capabilities for patient data lookup, information capture, auto-filling, and records transfer.

This innovation is a part of BD's larger commitment to advancing the standard of care in vascular access solutions. The SiteRite™ 9 aligns with the company's vision of a "One-Stick Hospital Stay," aimed at enhancing one of the most common invasive hospital procedures. By leveraging ultrasound technology, the system aims to increase the success rate of first attempt insertions and reduce the frequency of unnecessary needlesticks.

Product Availability: Having received 510(k) clearance in September, the SiteRite™ 9 Ultrasound System is now commercially available in the U.S.
